An upcoming version of the Google Gemini app may soon include support for video uploads. This new feature was found in a beta version of the Google app and could be implemented in Gemini shortly. It is expected that Google will impose certain restrictions on video file size and duration. Additionally, there is a possibility that this feature may be limited to subscribers of Gemini Advanced.
Currently, Google Gemini for Android is capable of responding to questions on a wide array of topics. Recently, the company has made some features from the Advanced tier available to free users, thus broadening accessibility. While the chatbot can handle various file types such as documents, PDFs, and images, video uploads are currently not supported. Fortunately, it seems that Google is close to changing this limitation.
For those using the Gemini app on Android, the file picker button in the text input area allows users to take a picture, attach images, or upload documents. However, the option to attach videos is notably absent. According to findings from Android Authority, this situation may be on the verge of changing. Investigating the Google app beta (v16.9.39.sa.arm64), they discovered code snippets indicating the possibility of video uploads.
Some of these code snippets are quite clear, describing features like video duration and playback options. Furthermore, Android Authority managed to test a part of this functionality, being able to select a video from the file picker, although they were unable to receive an analysis of the video itself, likely because the feature is still under development. The inclusion of video uploads would enhance Gemini’s functionality, and its applications could be vast. If implemented, Google may still enforce limits based on video size and duration, and there is speculation that certain features might be restricted to those with a Gemini Advanced subscription.
This could encourage users to invest in subscriptions, especially given that many paid features are increasingly becoming accessible to all users.
