The Pixel Weather app by Google has recently been updated with a new ‘Save’ button that allows users to save their current locations. While this feature shows promise for tracking weather in familiar areas, it has inadvertently led to duplicate entries in the locations list. This update could hint at future enhancements, possibly enabling users to check weather conditions in different cities without having to save them.
Additionally, the latest version improves the clarity of the 10-day forecast by now displaying dates alongside the days of the week. Originally launched with the Pixel 9 series, the Weather app was made available to earlier models, including the Pixel 6, through subsequent updates. The app has already outperformed the previous weather applet with features such as a precipitation map and customizable data widgets.
However, it still has limitations. One major drawback is that users cannot quickly check the weather for a city without adding it to their Saved Locations. Currently, the ‘Save’ button appears in the top-right corner when viewing your current location.
While this may enhance usability, it may also clutter the app, especially since saving your current location often results in two entries for the same city. This can be useful during travels but less so in everyday situations when your current location is typically static, like home or work. In this version, despite the added ‘Save’ button, users must still tap the “+” button at the bottom of the locations list to view weather elsewhere.
Strangely, the new ‘Save’ button does not work when accessing weather for another city. Despite these hiccups, Google has made progress by adding dates to the 10-day forecast, enhancing its functionality. The company’s ongoing efforts suggest that the Weather app will continue to improve in the future.
