Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge: Exploring the True Costs of Ultra-Thin Design Beyond Just Price

Samsung is set to unveil the Galaxy S25 Edge, a sleeker version of its flagship, sometime in the second quarter of this year. April 16 is currently speculated as the date for the official reveal, where the new device’s specifications and features will be highlighted. However, prior leaks and rumors suggest that expectations should be tempered. The Galaxy S25 Edge is anticipated to be an impressively thin device at just 5.84mm, weighing 162g, which aligns with the weight of the base S25 model.

It is speculated to feature a substantial 6.7-inch display, mirroring the design of the S25+. The price point is projected to be around $1,000. This combination of a large screen, thin profile, and lightweight design is notable, but also comes at a cost. Samsung allegedly compromised on the inclusion of a telephoto lens and reduced battery capacity to achieve this slender design.

The absence of the telephoto lens was confirmed during the recent Unpacked event, where it was shown that the S25 Edge will feature only two rear cameras. Clarity around the battery has emerged, as the S25 Edge’s batteries have appeared in certification databases in Denmark and India. The models, EB-BS937ABY and EB-BS937ABE, hint at a battery capacity of around 3,786mAh. This likely translates to a rated capacity of approximately 3,900mAh, marking a shift in reliance on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite’s power efficiency to manage daily usage.

For context, the base Galaxy S25 has a larger 4,000mAh battery. In related news, information regarding the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 has also surfaced, although without detailed capacity specifications. Expected to launch later this year, possibly in July, these models may include Samsung’s first tri-folding device.
