Microsoft Edge for Android Launches Extension Store Featuring 22 Unique Listings

Microsoft Edge for Android has now introduced support for web extensions, marking a significant achievement as it outpaces Chrome in this area. Users can presently select from 22 available extensions in the Edge extension store, with the promise of more to come in the near future. The installation process is straightforward, ensuring a smooth and user-friendly experience.

Recent developments in the browser landscape have stirred concerns. Firefox has taken a controversial turn by granting itself a nonexclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to users’ data, signaling a shift away from its commitment to user privacy. Meanwhile, Chrome’s implementation of Manifest V3 has caused disruptions by automatically disabling vital extensions like uBlock Origin, although users can currently re-enable them.

In this context, the addition of web extensions on Microsoft Edge comes as a welcome surprise. The current stable version of Microsoft Edge for Android (version 134.0.3124.57) features an extension store, which was first highlighted by Windows Latest. Currently in beta, the available extensions include popular options such as Dark Reader and Tampermonkey.

While it is disappointing that uBlock Origin is not available, users do have access to AdGuard VPN, suggesting that Microsoft is open to providing adblock capabilities, even if indirectly. Navigating to the Extensions Beta page is effortless; users simply need to tap the hamburger icon located in the bottom right corner of the browser. This action will display shortcuts, including the newly added Extensions menu.

From there, users can easily install their desired extensions with just a couple of taps. For those interested in exploring Edge’s new extensions store, downloading the latest stable version of Microsoft Edge for Android is just a quick visit to the Google Play Store away.
