Samsung’s New Foldables This Year Won’t Offer Improved Charging Speeds, So Manage Your Expectations.

Recent regulatory filings from China’s 3C certification highlight the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7. Both of these anticipated foldable devices are set to support 25W wired charging speeds, a standard that has remained unchanged since the Z Flip 4 was upgraded from 15W to 25W in 2022. The launch of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 is anticipated in the third quarter of this year, likely echoing the July release of their predecessors. However, expectations for these new foldables are not particularly high; Samsung itself has indicated that demand might be tepid.

This has led to the company planning to manufacture 39 percent fewer units compared to the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6. As the release date nears, rumors around the new devices are intensifying. Reports suggest that the Z Fold 7 may utilize the same M13 OLED display as its predecessor, though it will feature an expanded 8-inch unfolded screen. In contrast, the Z Flip 7 is rumored to finally introduce an edge-to-edge cover display, a long-awaited upgrade.

The latest 3C certification listing confirms some technical details. Both models, identified by their respective model numbers SM-F7660 for the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and SM-F9660 for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, are certified for a charging profile of 9V/2.77A, equating to the established 25W. While the certification does not provide specific details on battery capacities, earlier leaks suggest that the Z Fold 7 will maintain a 4,400mAh battery, while the Z Flip 7 might come with a slightly larger 4,300mAh battery. Additionally, the certification indicates that neither of the devices will include a charger in the box, despite being listed with an official Samsung travel charger, model number EP-TA800.
