Google Tasks Introduces Notifications for Incomplete To-Do Items

Google Tasks has recently introduced a new feature that displays the number of incomplete tasks within your lists. This update is available on the Tasks app for both Android and iOS users. Despite earlier concerns about the app’s potential discontinuation, Google has been making several updates to Tasks, signaling that the app may not be on the chopping block just yet.

For those who are engaged with Google’s suite of applications, it’s well-known that the company manages numerous projects simultaneously. Unfortunately, not all projects receive consistent updates, leading to speculation about their longevity. Tasks has seen some integration with Google Calendar, which raised doubts about its future, but recent activity suggests that Google may still be committed to maintaining the app.

The new feature, which highlights incomplete task counts, serves as a reminder of outstanding items on your to-do list. According to reports from 9to5Google, this change aims to enhance user awareness regarding unfinished tasks by displaying a count in the upper part of the app’s interface. This count will remain visible until all tasks are marked as completed, although, as of now, there is no option to disable this feature.

Users will also see total counts for all tasks, which may prompt varying reactions; while some may find it useful, others may perceive it as a constant reminder of what still needs to be done. As this feature is newly rolled out, it is likely to evolve over time. If you’re interested in trying out this functionality, make sure to update your Google Tasks app to the latest version or download it from the Google Play Store if you haven’t done so before.
