WhatsApp Status Updates Now Feature Music Integration, Matching Instagram Stories Capabilities

WhatsApp has launched its much-anticipated music integration for Status Updates, enabling users to add background music to their posts. For photos, users can choose music clips of up to 15 seconds, while videos can feature tracks of up to 60 seconds. To incorporate music, users can begin by creating a Status Update and tapping the newly introduced music note icon. This allows them to search through a library of licensed songs, which may include a “For You” section personalized based on their listening habits.

With this new feature, WhatsApp’s Status Updates are now more competitive with Instagram’s stories, largely thanks to Meta’s global agreement with Universal Music. Adding music is straightforward: after selecting a Status Update, users tap the music note icon, search for a song, and if the functionality mirrors that of Instagram’s, they will see a recommended list of tunes based on their searches. Once a song is chosen, they can scrub through it to pinpoint the specific part they want to include. However, bear in mind that photo stories can only accommodate a brief 15-second track, while video updates can utilize a 60-second clip.

As WhatsApp rolls out this feature globally, some users may still be waiting for access to it. Additionally, the recently discovered direct sharing option with Spotify has yet to be confirmed as live in conjunction with this music integration. Looking ahead, WhatsApp is also developing a Meta AI-powered feature that will facilitate the generation of custom profile photos directly within the app. This innovative tool, long rumored, is appearing for users on WhatsApp beta 2.25.9.8.

Unlike traditional changes to existing profile images, this feature will generate a new image based solely on user prompts, streamlining the process of creating a personalized profile picture.
