Google Extends Deadline for Fitbit Users to Transition for Additional Year

Google has quietly extended the deadline for existing Fitbit users to transition to Google accounts until February 2, 2026. This migration is necessary for users to retain their data, as Google plans to delete all Fitbit account information after this date.

After acquiring Fitbit in 2021, Google initially announced in September 2022 that new users would be required to activate their Fitbit devices using a Google account beginning in 2023. At that time, existing users were given until early 2025 to complete the transition.

However, the timeline has now been pushed back by an additional year, allowing Fitbit account holders to migrate until February 2, 2026. To ensure users are aware of the new deadline, Google has started sending emails to existing Fitbit account holders.

While the message emphasizes the February 2, 2026 deadline for migration, it does not explicitly state that the timeline has been extended. Additionally, these emails clarify that Google will not retain any user data associated with Fitbit accounts after the deadline.

For those who wish to continue using Fitbit services and preserve their health data, migrating to a Google account by February 2, 2026, is essential. Failure to do so will result in the inability to access the Fitbit service and the deletion of historical data, aside from any information kept to comply with legal requirements.

To start the migration process, users can find the “Move Account” option by tapping their profile icon in the top-right corner of the Fitbit app. This option will guide them in transferring their account and health data to Google.

It is important to note that migrating to a Google account will not unlock additional features or benefits; it will only simplify the login process and allow access to health data through Google’s Privacy Center. This extended timeline primarily benefits users of older Fitbit models and first-generation Pixel Watches, as newer devices already require a Google account for setup.

Unless further extensions are made, users must complete the migration by February 2, 2026, or risk losing their health data.
