Google’s Weather app on Pixel devices has recently undergone a change that users may find disappointing: the live weather maps are no longer available. This feature, which many consider a highlight of the app, may have been removed temporarily and could potentially be restored in the future.
Last year, Google introduced a revamped Weather app alongside the Pixel 9 series, significantly enhancing the overall user experience. This upgrade replaced the previous browser-based interface with a more modern design and increased customizability.
However, as of the past week, users noticed that the app no longer includes its interactive weather maps. During this time, the Weather app did receive an update that introduced a new floating action button for adding favorite locations, which coincided with the disappearance of the weather map feature.
Reports indicate that the missing maps are due to a server-side change related to the app version 1.0.20250127.729684887. Importantly, because this change is server-side, it can potentially be reversed without requiring a full app update.
The motivation behind the removal of the weather maps remains unclear, as the app’s Play Store listing still showcases images of the radar-style precipitation maps. Despite the absence of this feature, the Weather app retains its other functionalities, which continue to perform well.
The interactive weather maps were a standout feature of the app, providing users with a visual representation of precipitation patterns over the coming hours. Their return would be welcome news for users who appreciated this capability.
