Google Calendar is currently developing updated widgets aimed at enhancing visual appeal and maximizing space utilization. Alongside this, the Keep app is set to receive an upgrade to its Quick capture widget, which will feature larger buttons for improved accessibility. While these updated widgets are not yet available, their release is anticipated soon.
Despite some recent changes in Google Calendar that might not have resonated well with users on Android, it remains a reliable tool for keeping track of schedules and events across different platforms. The app offers two useful home screen widgets: a smaller version that emphasizes tasks and events, and a larger 4×4 option that displays the entire month. Google is now focusing on visual enhancements for these widgets.
In the latest version of Google Calendar (version 2025.13.0-742080714-release), Android Authority identified subtle updates to the visual elements of both widgets. While the changes are not groundbreaking, they are designed to optimize space usage. Specifically, the smaller widget will now accommodate more dates and events by reducing the gap between them.
Additionally, the + button used for adding new events or tasks will shift from a square/squircle container to a more streamlined, pill-shaped box. Although the 4×4 widget will retain its overall design, it too will feature the updated + button found in the smaller version. On a different note, Android Authority has discovered new versions of Google Keep’s Quick capture widget, which includes an expanded four-leaf clover shape.
Unlike the Calendar updates, these changes involve slightly larger widgets for Keep, ensuring that buttons are easier to access. The clover-shaped version will occupy more space than the current iteration, a design choice that is intriguing. While these visual enhancements are not yet live, the amount of effort invested suggests that the updates for both Calendar and Keep apps will arrive soon.
