Android 16 Could Resolve This Significant Issue for Budget Phone Users

Android 16 is poised to improve app installation speeds on low-end devices through a feature known as cloud compilation. This innovation shifts much of the processing related to app installations to the cloud, which is expected to significantly reduce installation times.

In addition to speeding up app installs, Android 16 will also enhance fingerprint unlocking and improve windowing support for tablets. As some manufacturers, such as Samsung, focus on releasing Android 15 for their flagship devices, Google is already deep into the beta phase of Android 16.

The official release is anticipated in June 2025. While Android 16 may not introduce a dramatic visual redesign, it promises numerous behind-the-scenes enhancements.

One noteworthy improvement is the potential for faster app installations. High-end devices typically manage app installations without any issues due to their powerful hardware.

In contrast, low-end smartphones often experience slow installation times resulting from weaker processors and limited storage capabilities. To address this, Android 16 could optimize app installations for lower-end devices by leveraging cloud compilation.

According to Android expert Mishaal Rahman, this feature will allow for processing of application artifacts to be done in the cloud rather than on the device itself. When installing an app, instead of your device compiling these artifacts, Android 16 will download preprocessed versions directly from the Play Store, which should lead to quicker installation times.

While this may slightly increase the app file size, the time saved during installation is expected to be substantial. However, this feature is not yet live, as Google still needs to set up the necessary infrastructure within the Play Store.

Initially, this feature might require users to opt in since it involves downloading additional data for each app.
