Samsung Restarts One UI 7 Update for Galaxy S24 with New Build Release

Samsung has restarted the rollout of One UI 7 for the Galaxy S24 following the discovery of a significant bug that earlier prompted the company to suspend the initial firmware release. A new firmware version, identified as BYD9, is now available in South Korea specifically for Galaxy S24 units that had previously installed the stable version of One UI 7. However, there are indications that Samsung may push back the rollout of the stable One UI 7 update for other models due to problems encountered with the initial build. After several months of beta testing, Samsung commenced the rollout of Android 15-based One UI 7 for the Galaxy S24 series in mid-April.

Unfortunately, this rollout was short-lived, as a major bug prevented some users from unlocking their devices post-update. Fortunately, Samsung has addressed the issue and released a revised build for the Galaxy S24. The BYD9 firmware update is approximately 292 MB and is only applicable for S24 units that previously installed the stable One UI 7 firmware. The changelog provided by Samsung highlights stability improvements and bug fixes but does not explicitly reference the unlocking issue that led to the initial rollout being halted.

To update manually, users can navigate to Settings, then Software update, and select Download and install. Samsung is expected to initiate a broader release of the fixed One UI 7 build to additional regions in the upcoming weeks. In light of the initial rollout’s challenges, the company may take a more cautious approach moving forward. If your Galaxy S24 is still operating on Android 14, an OTA update to Android 15 should be forthcoming in just a few days.

Additionally, Samsung has also released the stable One UI 7 update for the Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 in South Korea, with revised builds for these devices likely arriving soon. According to the original rollout timeline, the Galaxy S23, Z Fold 5, and Flip 5 are expected to receive their stable One UI 7 updates later this month; however, delays may occur due to the issues experienced with the initial firmware. Older Galaxy devices are slated to receive their stable Android 15 updates in May.
