Samsung’s Galaxy Watch Classic is set to make a comeback this year.

Samsung is set to launch the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, having recently received Bluetooth SIG certification. This development suggests that a July announcement is likely, coinciding with the release of Samsung’s new foldable devices. Notably, Samsung did not introduce a Classic variant last year, opting instead for the Galaxy Watch 7 and Ultra in 2024. The reintroduction of the Classic name raises questions about Samsung’s strategy for its Galaxy Watch lineup in 2025.

It remains uncertain whether this Classic variant is simply a rebranding of the Galaxy Watch Ultra or if it signifies the return of the Classic model to their offerings. There’s a possibility that Samsung may adopt a staggered release schedule similar to Apple’s, avoiding annual launches of the Ultra model. A staggered release schedule seems sensible. It could allow Samsung to alternate between launching a Galaxy Watch Classic one year and a new Galaxy Watch Ultra the next, introducing a third option to their lineup that remains more affordable than the $650 Ultra model.

This approach not only diversifies the product range but also caters to different customer preferences. Also, many fans of the Galaxy Watch are eager for the return of the rotating bezel, a feature last seen with the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic. The physical rotating bezel offers an intuitive way to navigate the smartwatch interface, which is particularly helpful for users who prefer one-handed operation. It also enhances the overall look and feel of the watch, aligning with the aesthetics appreciated by traditional watch enthusiasts who utilize smart features like fitness and sleep tracking.

Whether Samsung chooses to revamp the Ultra or reintroduce the Classic, the anticipation for the rotating bezel reflects user preferences for tactile control and a classic watch experience.
