Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Could Feature an Ultra-Inspired Squircle Design

Samsung is reportedly planning significant updates for its 2025 smartwatch lineup, which may feature a new squircle design. This change aligns with the design language seen in last year’s Galaxy Watch Ultra, as evidenced by leaks from the upcoming One UI 8 Watch update.

The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic is expected to stand out with an additional Quick Button and an upgraded vibration motor, enhancing its overall functionality. According to investigations by the Android Authority team into an unreleased firmware version, the Galaxy Watch 8 and its variants are set to adopt a squircle shape while still maintaining their circular displays.

Notably, this design shift could cause mixed reactions among existing users, as it deviates from the traditional round shape associated with the Galaxy Watch series. In 2024, the squircle design was exclusive to the Galaxy Watch Ultra, while the more standard models retained the classic circular body.

Leaked firmware details suggest the Galaxy Watch 8 series will feature two physical buttons on the right side, similar to the Galaxy Watch 7. However, the Classic model is set to gain an extra Quick Button akin to that of the Ultra model, although it will forgo the latter’s distinct orange highlight.

Furthermore, the different bezels across the new models hint at a carefully crafted aesthetic differentiation. In terms of sizing, the Galaxy Watch 8 is anticipated to come in both S and L sizes, though specifics on chassis sizes are not clear yet.

For the Classic variant, while no alternative sizes have been mentioned, it’s possible that two options may still be available. One of the more notable features expected in the Classic model is a robust vibration motor, setting it apart further from the regular Galaxy Watch 8.

Based on historical release patterns, the new lineup is likely to debut alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 in July 2025.
