Sony’s Upcoming Flagship Noise-Canceling Headphones Set to Launch Soon

Sony’s highly anticipated WH-1000XM6 headphones may be unveiled as soon as next week. These new headphones are expected to incorporate a faster QN3 chip, which promises to enhance both noise cancellation and sound quality. The projected price for the WH-1000XM6 in the U.S. is $450, which is $50 more than the current WH-1000XM5.

Although the WH-1000XM5 was released three years ago and continues to be a benchmark in premium headphones due to its outstanding sound quality and exceptional active noise cancellation (ANC), advances in technology mean these features are starting to feel a bit dated. A recent leak has shed light on the upcoming WH-1000XM6, including its specs, release date, and anticipated price hike. The initial information regarding the WH-1000XM6 was sourced from a listing on Amazon Spain, which was quickly removed.

However, Dealabs managed to document the specifications. The new headphones will utilize the HD QN3 processor, reportedly up to seven times faster than the previous QN1 chip found in the WH-1000XM5. Notably, Sony has decided to skip over the QN2 chip entirely.

In addition to the upgraded processor, the headphones are set to feature a state-of-the-art Digital-to-Analog converter to minimize distortion and enhance sound immersion. The design will potentially include six AI-driven beamforming microphones aimed at improving voice clarity during calls and enhancing noise cancellation. Other expected features include adaptive noise cancellation, Hi-Res audio streaming with LDAC codec support, and personalized Spatial Audio capabilities.

The battery life is anticipated to remain at 30 hours per charge, with a quick charge of three minutes providing up to three hours of playback. While the WH-1000XM5 introduced a sleek new design, it had the drawback of losing its foldable feature, making it bulkier for transport. Consumers will hope Sony addresses this in the XM6 model.

Ultimately, while the WH-1000XM6 comes with an increase in price, the value proposition will depend on whether there are substantial enhancements over the XM5.
