T-Mobile set to offer free line to loyal subscribers, but with certain conditions attached

T-Mobile is taking steps to retain its long-term subscribers by offering a free line to accounts that have been active for over five years. The aim is to boost customer satisfaction amid challenges facing the industry. To qualify, subscribers must meet certain criteria, including having an account for a minimum of five years and not currently benefiting from specific discounts.

While the offer includes a mostly free line, there is a one-time $10 connection fee, and it is restricted to bring-your-own-device setups. Loyal customers often feel overlooked when new customers receive attractive promotions, making them consider switching to rival carriers. In response to Verizon losing nearly 300,000 subscribers in the first quarter of 2025, T-Mobile is stepping up to reward its loyal users with this initiative.

However, the eligibility requirements come with a few conditions. Specifically, your account must have been open for at least five years, you must not already have a free line, and accounts benefiting from the Insider discount, Hometown Discount, or Work Perks are excluded. Additionally, any canceled lines within the past 90 days disqualify an account from participation.

T-Mobile is careful not to distribute too many free lines that may go unused, resulting in these reasonable restrictions. Interestingly, the promotion will also apply to both business accounts and T-Mobile employee accounts. It is essential to note that this free line is exclusively for bring-your-own-device options, so it cannot be used with devices financed through T-Mobile.

While the free line isn’t entirely without cost, the one-time $10 Device Connection Charge is relatively low. For long-time subscribers considering adding a line rather than switching carriers, this offer presents a temporary solution. To check eligibility, customers can contact T-Mobile’s customer service or wait for notification messages that are set to begin on May 8.
