Google Meet Enhances Screen Sharing for Improved Speed and Clarity

Google Meet is enhancing its screen-sharing capabilities to provide a faster and higher-quality video experience. The company aims to improve usability by making the screen-sharing button larger and easier to locate. Additionally, Google now supports direct content sharing from external cameras at resolutions of up to 1080p. As Google’s sole video calling and conferencing platform, Meet is continuously evolving to meet the needs of both individual users and enterprises.

Following the introduction of a new in-call layout in March 2023, the latest updates focus on maximizing the screen-sharing experience. Google announced improvements that make starting screen sharing quicker across desktops, windows, or tabs. Users can expect sharper visuals, particularly when handling text or video while scrolling. A notable convenience is that Meet will automatically resume screen sharing from a previous session when a second presenter stops their sharing.

Alongside these improvements, the screen-sharing button has been repositioned for greater accessibility, finding its place near other essential controls. If you utilize external cameras or video production tools during your Meet calls, you’ll now be able to share content directly from those sources without the need to switch gears mid-session. To activate this feature, users need to go into the Meet settings and enable the “Share content from camera” option. This update primarily benefits enterprise users and educators, with a significant boost to Full HD quality at 30 frames per second.

The rollout of these features began on June 4, 2025, for Rapid Release domains, taking up to 15 days to become available. Scheduled Release domains will see the features go live starting June 11. Additionally, at I/O 2025, Google introduced real-time speech translation in Meet, currently available in beta for AI Pro subscribers. This feature, however, is restricted to translations between English and Spanish for now.

Google plans to expand language support to include Italian, German, and Portuguese in the future.
