In the latest Android 16 beta, there appears to be code hinting at this adjustable flashlight feature, although it is not yet active. While Android 16 has rolled out several new features to enhance the Pixel experience, many fans are already looking forward to what’s next, particularly with the discovery of this long-awaited addition.
The ability to modify flashlight intensity is a feature that many users believe should have been available on Pixel devices much earlier. Indeed, this addition may not seem revolutionary, but the lack of it has been notable, as Google’s Pixels are among the last major smartphones to implement this functionality. Other brands such as Samsung, OnePlus, and Xiaomi have included this option for years, and Apple has famously allowed iPhone users to control the flashlight strength as well.
It’s somewhat perplexing that Google has taken so long to incorporate this feature, particularly given that the capability to modify flashlight intensity has existed since 2022, albeit through third-party applications like the Magnifier app. This oversight raises questions about why it wasn’t included sooner. However, it seems that the feature is finally on its way, as data miners uncovered the relevant code within the Android 16 beta.
While the current implementation may undergo changes before its official launch, it is likely to mirror the standard options available on other devices. Currently, Pixels default to 50% brightness for the flashlight, so the addition of a strength adjustment could greatly enhance the usability of this feature for all users.
