Samsung’s One UI 8 May Introduce This Android 16 Screenshot Feature

Samsung is currently in the testing phase of its Android 16-based One UI 8 update, with the stable version anticipated to be released soon. The first users to experience this stable update will likely be owners of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7, expected next month. However, details regarding the new features have already emerged from the beta version. One exciting addition to One UI 8 is the introduction of true HDR screenshots, a feature taken directly from Android 16.

This functionality allows users to capture screenshots of HDR movies or content in PNG format, complete with embedded metadata for maintaining HDR quality on compatible displays. A significant advancement, this feature addresses previous limitations where screenshots were only available in standard dynamic range (SDR). The news of this development came from reputable industry leaker @UniverseIce on the platform X (formerly known as Twitter). They confirmed that HDR screenshot capability is active in the closed beta version on several Galaxy S25 Ultra devices.

Given that the feature is already in testing, it is likely to be included in the next public beta version of One UI 8. There is also a possibility that users will gain access to HDR screenshots with the stable rollout of One UI 8 for the Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7. When this functionality goes live, users will be able to take detailed HDR screenshots from a variety of popular applications, including Instagram, Threads, YouTube, Discord, Netflix, and Disney+, among others. This addition enhances the overall user experience, paving the way for richer visual content sharing.
