Gemini Live: No More Volume Adjustments Required for an Enhanced Experience

Gemini Live is making notable improvements to enhance user experience. Previously, it only provided chat transcripts at the end of interactions. However, with the introduction of a new live Caption button, users can now see Gemini’s words on their screen as they are spoken.

This update is becoming more widely available and comes with additional useful features. The new live captions feature, discovered by 9to5Google, allows users to converse with Gemini even in noisy environments or when their phone volume is muted. This represents a major advancement compared to the previous setup where such an option didn’t exist.

The live captions make social interactions effortless, offering flexibility during conversations. When users launch Gemini Live, they will notice a live caption button at the top-right corner of the full-screen view. By tapping on it, real-time captions will appear in a floating box at the center of the screen.

Additionally, if the volume is set low while initiating a conversation, Gemini will prompt users to activate captions automatically, ensuring an uninterrupted chat experience. To access caption settings, users can find the “Caption preferences” option located beneath the “Interrupt Live responses” toggle in Gemini’s settings. This leads directly to the phone’s system settings.

It’s important to note that the captions will display what Gemini is saying but will not include the user’s words. However, a complete conversation transcript will be available at the end of the chat. Once activated, the captions will remain on for future Gemini Live sessions.

As reported by 9to5, while captions will disappear if the user exits full-screen mode, they will reappear when re-entering an ongoing conversation. This feature is being rolled out to both stable and beta versions of the Google app on Android.
