Anker, the prominent accessory company, has faced a challenging June as it issues yet another recall for several of its popular power banks. This marks the second recall for Anker’s power banks within just one month. The company announced that the recalls were initiated due to “a potential issue with common lithium-ion battery cells from a single vendor.”
While Anker assesses the risk of fire as minimal, it has taken appropriate measures by offering replacements or vouchers for the affected products. The recall affects five different power bank models, all purchased between June 1, 2016, and December 31, 2022. The specific models involved include the Anker Power Bank (10K, 22.5W, model number A1257), Anker Power Bank (20,000mAh, 22.5W, Built-In USB-C Cable, model number A1647), Anker MagGo Power Bank (10,000mAh, 7.5W, model number A1652), Anker Zolo Power Bank (20K, 30W, Built-In USB-C and Lightning Cable, model number A1681), and another Anker Zolo Power Bank (20K, 30W, Built-In USB-C Cable, model number A1689).
If you’ve purchased an Anker power bank, it’s advisable to check the recall list. You can find the serial number on the back of your power bank, though it may require close inspection. Upon verifying that your power bank is affected, you can visit Anker’s recall page to complete the necessary form, which entails taking a few photos and marking the item with a permanent marker.
You will have the option to choose between a replacement or a voucher for Anker’s website. While the replacement is a 10,000mAh power bank—which may be smaller than the recalled units—it is ultimately a safer choice. This month has been particularly tough for Anker, as just two weeks earlier, the company recalled over a million PowerCore 10,000mAh power banks.
Despite these challenges, Anker’s swift response to the issues reflects its commitment to customer safety.
