Gemini Live May Introduce a New Shortcut Button for Circle Search Functionality Soon

Google is in the midst of enhancing the Gemini experience, introducing some useful updates to improve user interaction. One major change on the horizon is the incorporation of a swipe gesture, making it easier and more intuitive to launch Gemini Live.

Additionally, the tech company has been seen developing a compact overlay that allows users to engage with Gemini Live without needing to open a full-screen window. This new overlay may even feature a button dedicated to Gemini Live’s own iteration of Circle to Search.

Recent insights from a beta version of Google’s Android app have shed light on how Circle to Search could be implemented in Gemini Live. This feature has been under development for some time, with an initial reveal in a promotional video back in April, where it was referred to as “Circle Screen.” At that time, it appeared as a floating pen icon but lacked polish.

In the latest updates, it appears that Google is refining this feature through a more streamlined bottom-of-the-screen overlay for Gemini Live. This will allow users to chat without overwhelming their screen space.

A notable addition is a floating “Live” button that activates when Gemini is minimized, allowing quick access to control options. Moreover, the placement of the Circle Screen button has been improved; it now sits conveniently within the new overlay instead of awkwardly floating above it.

Interaction has also been enhanced—tapping the pen icon now highlights it rather than applying a strikethrough effect, suggesting better usability. Another promising development in the pipeline is a caption button located above the compact bottom overlay.

When activated, captions will remain visible during a session, even if the overlay is minimized or the button disappears, ensuring users can always see what Gemini is saying. While these updates are currently in testing and not yet available to the broader Android audience, they indicate a clear and positive direction for Gemini Live.
