Netflix is expanding its offerings beyond just streaming TV shows and movies. In addition to features like Netflix Games, the company is venturing into live-streaming major events, covering popular activities such as WWE, NFL, and boxing.
Recently, Netflix announced a partnership that will allow subscribers to live stream space-related content directly on their devices. NASA will launch its live-streaming platform, NASA+, on Netflix starting this summer.
This exciting development means that viewers will have access to an array of space-related broadcasts such as rocket launches, astronaut spacewalks, mission briefings, and real-time views of Earth from the International Space Station, all through the Netflix app on smartphones and compatible smart devices. This partnership represents a significant move for Netflix into the realm of diverse and accessible content, marking a shift from its previous focus primarily on exclusive live sports events.
By integrating NASA+ content, Netflix is offering these streams for free, enhancing user engagement in space exploration. While NASA+ content has been available for free on the NASA website and launched on Amazon Prime Video recently, this collaboration allows the agency to reach Netflix’s extensive global audience.
With over 700 million subscribers worldwide, Netflix has the potential to increase interest in NASA’s work and inspire a broader viewership about space. Although there’s no confirmed launch date for the integration of NASA+ into the Netflix app yet, two key events—the “Progress 92 Cargo Ship Launch” and “Progress 92 Cargo Ship Docking”—are set for early July.
These events might mark the arrival of NASA+ live content on Netflix, although nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
