Music tastes vary widely among individuals, but thanks to streaming platforms like Spotify and YouTube Music, listeners now have access to a greater variety of music than ever before. Despite this abundance, not every platform excels in recommending music that aligns perfectly with a user’s preferences. Spotify’s Discover Weekly feature, for instance, has received complaints regarding the limited genre variety it offers. Launched a decade ago, Discover Weekly aims to introduce users to new music tailored to their listening habits.
However, many users have noted that the recommendations can often feel repetitive or lack diversity in genres. This feedback has prompted Spotify to enhance the Discover Playlist feature, hoping to reignite interest among disappointed users. For Spotify Premium subscribers, the updated Discover Playlist introduces new controls that allow users to specify which genres they prefer to see more of in their recommendations. This added personalization means that if a user develops an interest in a new genre, they can easily adjust their preferences to receive more of that style in their playlist.
Additionally, if the selections become stale over time, users can change the genre filter at any moment, giving them greater flexibility and control over their music experience. Aside from the adjustable genre filters, Spotify has also refreshed the Discover Weekly interface with updated visuals. These enhancements are available in the latest version of the Spotify app for both Android and iOS users. If these new features are not visible yet, users should ensure they have the app updated through the Google Play Store or App Store.
While the new filter options should indeed make finding music in specific genres easier, it is still advisable for users to explore Spotify’s AI-generated playlists to unearth even more of their favorite tracks.
