The Gemini app has embraced the signature red, blue, green, and yellow color scheme of Google Assistant, and is expanding its functionality to include more features of the original voice assistant. It has already adopted key functions such as making phone calls, sending text messages, setting alarms and timers, and controlling media. The latest addition to its repertoire is the ability to broadcast messages, thanks to its integration with Google Home.
This functionality was first announced last month and, according to reports from 9to5Google, it has started to roll out to users. To take advantage of this new feature, users need to enable Google Home within the Gemini app. This involves accessing the app, tapping on the profile icon located in the top right corner, selecting Apps, and activating Google Home.
If App Activity isn’t enabled, you’ll receive a prompt to turn it on. Once you have enabled the necessary settings, you can request Gemini to broadcast messages to your Nest speakers and smart displays linked to your Google Home account. This can be done directly through the app or via a convenient overlay shortcut.
You also have the option to specify whether your message should be sent to all devices in your home or just to a particular device or room. Previously, Gemini could broadcast messages but relied on Google Assistant to perform this task. The new integration allows Gemini to handle broadcast requests independently.
While this feature is currently being rolled out, some users, including ourselves, are still finding that Gemini defaults to using Google Assistant for these requests, indicating that the upgrade may not be widely available yet.
