Android 16 QPR1 Beta 3 Focuses on Enhancements and Bug Fixes

Google has released the third beta version of Android 16 QPR1 for Pixel users participating in the beta channel. While the previous beta introduced a desktop mode with app windowing features, this latest update primarily focuses on fixing significant bugs rather than introducing new features. The second beta was launched in early June, followed by a minor Beta 2.1 update later that month, which primarily addressed a malfunctioning back button.

With the public release of Android 16 QPR1 expected in September, Google’s current emphasis appears to be on stabilizing the system and refining the overall experience. The Android 16 QPR1 Beta 3 (BP31.250610.004) is now available for all devices, except the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. This update brings various bug fixes, including:

– Resolution of RTOS task list corruption issues causing unexpected restarts.

– Fixes for display problems in the launcher and notification shade. – Improvements to the media player functionality in the notification pull-down. – Resolutions for full phone restarts due to class loader issues and kernel problems.

– Addressing camera functionality issues at startup. – Corrections for missing padding on status bar icons. Users can download the update directly or check for it through their device settings.

It’s important to note that the QPR1 Beta 3 update does not incorporate new features from the Android Canary builds, such as enhanced split-screen capabilities or parental controls. These features are likely reserved for a future major Android release. Nevertheless, Android 16 QPR1 still holds exciting updates, including the full implementation of Material 3 Expressive and a revamped Quick Settings panel.
