I may not consider myself a runner, but I certainly enjoy hiking and leisurely walks. My wearables perform flawlessly during these activities; however, they fall short when it comes to strength training at the gym.
While they include a basic strength training mode along with options for different muscle groups, the features often feel rather simplistic. They mainly track calories burned, heart rate, and workout duration, which doesn’t provide much extra support for my training.
Third-party apps tend to excel at monitoring workout details like reps and sets. Yet, with Google’s upcoming innovations, a native experience on the Pixel Watch may be just what I need.
The new Pixel Watch is expected to include continuous SpO2 monitoring and low oxygen detection, alongside a completely new ‘strength training experience’ featuring a ‘Workout Builder.’ According to a report from AndroidHeadlines, the Pixel Watch 4 will have updates that also cater to running, swimming, and cycling enthusiasts.
The Workout Builder will allow users to design personalized interval workouts, including warm-up and cool-down periods customized to their needs. The watch is designed to provide real-time guidance throughout the workout, and users can expect to receive insights after completing their session.
The following day, the Pixel Watch 4 will assess recovery by generating a ‘readiness’ score based on various metrics, helping users decide whether to workout or take a rest day. Additionally, the strength training improvements will come with new running metrics including cadence, stride length, and ground contact balance, among others.
For those subscribed to Fitbit Premium, daily AI-generated running recommendations will be available, continuing the trend of providing useful tools for fitness enthusiasts. Despite expected incremental hardware upgrades, the software enhancements show promise for the Pixel Watch series moving forward.
