Dying Light: The Beast, Techland’s upcoming zombie action game, has been delayed from its original release date of August 22 to September 19. The developers stated that the additional weeks will be utilized for “extra polishing work” to enhance the game’s quality before launch. This delay also removes one of August’s major game releases, alongside titles like Mafia: The Old Country and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.
Fortunately, players will only have to wait an extra four weeks for this highly anticipated game. The new launch date positions Dying Light: The Beast for a release just after Borderlands 4, which will add to a crowded gaming landscape in September. Techland explained the reasoning behind the delay on their official Pilgrim Outpost website, acknowledging the positive previews the game has received from various outlets.
They expressed their desire to take more time to refine what they believe will be a “special, fun game.” In the coming weeks, Techland plans to focus on various aspects of the game, including better gameplay balance, improving user interface clarity, enhancing physics quality, and refining cutscenes and player animations. They emphasized that these final adjustments could significantly elevate the overall experience, making a substantial difference between a good game and a great one.
While game delays can be discouraging, they often result in a more polished final product. Dying Light: The Beast is an interesting entry in the franchise, as it originated as downloadable content for Dying Light 2. However, with significant adjustments to the gameplay, including the return of Kyle Crane and the introduction of new abilities, Techland ultimately decided to develop it into a standalone title.
From my own experience playing the game at Summer Game Fest, I believe that Techland is committed to delivering a refined gaming experience at launch.
