One UI 8 marks a significant shift for Samsung, breaking its tradition of launching major Android updates in the fall. This year’s release promises to be pivotal, introducing a host of exciting features.
The ongoing One UI 8 beta program is making steady progress, with Samsung consistently providing updates to testers. On July 9th at 10 AM ET, Samsung will host its Galaxy Unpacked event in New York, where it will unveil its latest generation of foldable phones and smartwatches.
Interested users can reserve a Galaxy Z Flip or Fold 7, which comes with a $50 Samsung credit for purchasing accessories. Recently, Samsung rolled out the latest version of its beta, One UI 8 beta 3.
While the primary focus has been on addressing bugs, the company is also actively testing new features. One standout addition is the Dynamic Effect feature in the Gallery app, designed to enhance the user experience by adding a lifelike touch to photos.
According to well-known leaker @UniverseIce, the Dynamic Effect builds on the existing Live Effect feature, allowing users to view 2D images in a 3D format. This new functionality will enable users to manipulate subjects in their photos using touch, creating smooth visual animations as the subject shifts direction.
A demo displayed a flower being nudged around, giving a glimpse of this exciting feature’s potential. While the initial impact of the Dynamic Effect appears to be more entertainment-focused, there are suggestions that users could benefit more from being able to save these animated images as wallpapers.
This would enhance accessibility and usability, rather than requiring users to navigate back to the Gallery app. As details regarding the Dynamic Effect emerge, it’s uncertain whether it will be offered as a standalone feature or integrated with Live Effect.
Additionally, its availability to various Galaxy models remains a question, but early signs suggest it will likely be limited to premium devices, similar to past features. Further information will be revealed as One UI 8’s stable release approaches.
