Samsung recently made waves with the unveiling of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, boasting dimensions that include a slim 4.2mm thickness when opened. In response, smartphone manufacturer Tecno has revealed an innovative concept folding phone that takes thinness to the next level.
The Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept features a tri-fold design, which means it is equipped with two hinges for an even larger open screen. When fully opened, the Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept measures just 3.49mm, making it notably slimmer than the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the sleek Honor Magic V5.
Tecno has touted this device as the world’s thinnest tri-fold phone, although the current competition largely consists of the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate, which ranges between 3.6mm and 4.75mm in thickness. The folding mechanism of the Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept is unique as it folds inward twice, protecting the inner screen when closed.
When folded, it measures 11.49mm, thicker than the Z Fold 7’s 8.9mm. However, this difference is expected due to the additional hinge.
It still manages to maintain a more compact profile compared to the 12.8mm thick Mate XT Ultimate. While Tecno is mum on many detailed specifications, it has revealed that the fully open screen will be 9.94 inches, offering a tablet-like experience.
Specifics regarding the cover screen size and aspect ratio remain undisclosed. However, Tecno indicates functionality when partially open, providing three possible screen orientations.
In terms of battery capacity, the G Fold Ultimate will feature a 5,000mAh battery and is also expected to include a triple-camera system alongside a powerful chipset. As a concept phone, the Phantom Ultimate G Fold is not yet available for purchase.
Tecno plans to showcase it to the public for the first time at MWC 2026 in Barcelona, following a preview at MWC 2025. Nevertheless, they will need to be mindful, as Samsung is set to launch its own tri-fold smartphone in 2025, sure to attract significant attention.
