Google Messages Set to Undergo a Branding Transformation for a Fresh New Look

Google is working to give its core applications a fresh update through the implementation of its Material 3 Expressive design language. This overhaul is not merely focused on aesthetics, but also aims to direct users’ attention to important user interface elements without being overly assertive. This updated aesthetic is expected to play a significant role in the upcoming Android 16 release.

Alongside this, Google is also refining its overall branding, making subtle adjustments to Google Messages to better align it with the rest of its application suite. According to Android Authority, the recent beta version of Google Messages reveals a new branding change in the app’s header. Currently, the top-left corner displays a simple “G,” but it appears Google plans to replace this with the complete “Google” branding.

This shift towards a bolder presence enhances brand recognition and aligns with the branding updates the company is implementing across its other applications. Interestingly, Google chose not to enhance the old “G” with its characteristic gradient, which has been recently featured in the G logo. However, this decision aligns with the trend of major Google apps prominently displaying the full “Google” name, ensuring users are aware of the application’s origin.

While changing an app’s header may seem minor and won’t affect functionality, design still plays a crucial role in user experience. An appealing and organized layout enhances usability, making the app easier to navigate. The adjustments to the Google Messages header indicate Google’s ambition to create a cohesive look across all its applications.

Notably, this branding update is not limited to Pixel devices; it is also being seen on Samsung phones utilizing One UI. It is hoped that this update will address some issues, such as the empty space atop the chat list on various Galaxy phones.
