In June 2025, Google introduced a feature update for the Pixel Watch, which included new functionalities like public transit payments and the option to mark favorite home controls for easy access. However, the firmware update was notably absent for Pixel Watch users in Japan and Singapore, with Google stating that these regions would receive an update in the following weeks. Now, over a month later, the company has begun deploying the July 2025 update for these devices.
This new update, designated BW1A.250605.004.J2, not only includes the enhancements from the June update but also features a crucial fix for emergency calling. As stated by Google, the fix improves emergency call capabilities for watches that lack cellular service provisioned, enabling functionality for SIMless watches connected via Bluetooth tethering. Additionally, the June update modified how Google Wallet payments operate, requiring users to unlock their devices before transactions can take place.
It’s important to note that even though the update is being released in July, it still contains the June 2025 security patch. Google confirmed that the rollout begins today and will continue over the next two weeks. For users in Japan or Singapore, there is an option to manually install the July 2025 firmware immediately by going to Settings, then System, and selecting System updates.
It’s recommended to ensure the watch is charged before initiating this process. Looking ahead, the next significant update for the Pixel Watch is expected in September. This update is anticipated to introduce Wear OS 6, along with other enhancements following the recent updates to the Wear OS interface and applications.
