Major US carriers frequently entice customers with additional perks to attract new users and retain existing ones. T-Mobile, for instance, is famous for its T-Mobile Tuesdays, while Verizon offers personalized deals and promotions through Verizon Access, which also includes local passes for events like sports games and concerts. On the other hand, AT&T has been discontinuing some of its offerings. It previously had the AT&T Thanks program but has since eliminated it along with another significant benefit.
Currently, AT&T provides a media storage platform that offers unlimited storage for eligible prepaid plan holders, allowing automatic backups and syncs of photos and videos in their original quality. However, AT&T has recently announced that it will be shutting down this service. While the reasons for the discontinuation weren’t communicated, it’s speculated that the carrier might be incurring losses from maintaining unlimited cloud storage for a large user base. This will significantly impact users who rely on the service to store their cherished memories.
Although the official shutdown of the service won’t occur until February 2026, the app will stop automatically backing up files starting October 20, 2025. Additionally, it will be removed from app stores in October. Users will not lose the media already uploaded; however, they should download their archives before the service goes offline. To retrieve their data, users need to log in to the AT&T Photo Storage platform, request their archive, and await an email confirmation.
Once ready, they can download their files as ZIP archives. Although it’s optional, users can delete their accounts post-download to ensure their personal data is permanently removed. This service shutdown follows AT&T’s recent discontinuation of its email-to-text and text-to-email functionalities.
