Recent leaks suggest that Google is set to introduce significant, yet modest, updates to the Pixel Watch 4 aimed at enhancing user experience. Originally, it appeared that Google would eliminate the POGO pins in favor of wireless charging.
However, new information indicates that the company will retain the POGO pins, simply moving them to the left side of the watch. According to recently shared renders from Android Headlines, the new charger will feature an indentation on the left, accommodating the relocated charging pins.
This redesign not only alters the position of the pins but also aims to create a dock-like appearance for the charger. The new charging puck resembles none of the existing chargers for Wear OS or Apple Watch, suggesting a fresh approach to charging.
A notable advantage of this revamped design is the potential for the Pixel Watch 4 to function as a bedside clock during charging. This feature allows users to easily check the time and battery status at a glance.
However, this change means that current Pixel Watch chargers will be incompatible with the new model. Moreover, initial reports suggest that the Pixel Watch 4 could charge up to 25% faster than its predecessor, the Pixel Watch 3.
While the relocation of the charging pins and new dock promises various benefits, it also means users must adapt to the new position and forgo their existing chargers. Additionally, the adjusted charging pins may enhance the repairability of the Pixel Watch 4, which is an area where past models have faced criticism.
Google plans to include this new charging dock with the Pixel Watch 4, and it may also be sold separately in the future, despite not bundling a USB-C power brick with the watch.
