$700 Galaxy Z Flip FE Faces Delays Due to Ongoing Exynos Supply Chain Issues

Samsung understands that not all of its loyal fans are willing to spend over $1,100 on a foldable smartphone, especially one that lacks both a large battery and cutting-edge camera technology. After much speculation, an affordable version of the Galaxy Z foldables, known as the FE model, is finally in the pipeline. However, Samsung is currently facing significant production challenges that have delayed its release.

According to The Bell, a Korean news outlet, Samsung’s ongoing difficulties in manufacturing enough advanced systems-on-a-chip will prevent the Galaxy Z Flip FE from launching alongside the Z Flip 7 during the summer. Instead, it is now expected to debut in the latter half of the year, with a delay of “several months” anticipated between the launches of the two devices. The high cost of foldable phones remains a significant barrier to their adoption.

While features like performance, battery life, and durability are steadily improving, affordable and powerful options, such as the Moto Razr 2024, are scarce. Samsung stands out with its exceptional interface design, and the arrival of the Z Fold FE might give foldables another opportunity to gain broader appeal. Initial reports suggest that the Z Flip FE will be an impressive device.

Recent leaks indicate it will utilize the design and high-quality inner screen from the Z Flip 6, complemented by a spacious cover display, advanced flexible glass, and a dual-camera setup. However, it will not include a top-tier Qualcomm chip, aiming to keep the price around $700. The main concern lies with the Exynos 2500 chipset, which has led to setbacks for the upcoming midrange foldable.

Despite once being considered for flagship devices, the Exynos 2500’s lackluster performance has rendered it nearly obsolete. Samsung is cautious about fitting this chip into the Z Flip 7, fearing it could hurt sales. Moreover, difficulties in manufacturing have raised doubts about having sufficient supply when the Z Flip 7 launches in July.

Consequently, Samsung is adjusting its timeline and focusing on delivering a more powerful Exynos 2600 for future products.
