Gboard has introduced Undo and Redo buttons to enhance the editing experience for users. The Undo feature allows you to reverse deletions on a per-letter basis, while the Redo function is helpful for correcting accidental Undo actions.
These new features are part of Gboard version 15. Gboard is one of the most popular keyboard applications on Android, often pre-installed on various Android devices.
Known for its efficient autocomplete and autocorrect functions, Gboard has sometimes faced criticism for inaccuracies. The addition of Undo and Redo buttons marks a significant improvement, particularly because chat applications typically lack effective editing tools or editing history.
After nearly two years of development and testing, these features are now available to users, as reported by 9to5Google. To access the Undo and Redo buttons, tap the four-square icon in the top left corner when Gboard is open.
Here, you’ll find the Undo shortcut along with other features such as Resize. Users can drag it to the suggestions bar for easier access.
However, it’s important to note that the Redo button only appears after you have used Undo, and both buttons will be grayed out if they can’t perform any actions. In initial tests, Gboard’s Undo feature successfully restored whole words as well as individual letters.
However, it does lose its memory if you switch apps or close Gboard. One limitation noted during testing was the inability to undo autocorrections, as the shortcuts bar prioritizes autocomplete suggestions.
These features are part of the latest Gboard update available on the Play Store. If you don’t see them immediately, check for updates and ensure that automatic updates are enabled.
