Google has recently introduced a new feature called AI Mode for Search, which enhances the user experience with its advanced reasoning and multimodal capabilities. Initially, this feature was available to Google One AI Premium subscribers, but now it’s being expanded to include regular, non-paying Google account holders in the United States. Users can easily find AI Mode next to the ‘All’ tab in search results, providing them with more detailed information directly within the search interface. This means that users can gain insights without necessarily needing to navigate to different websites.
The AI Mode is powered by Gemini 2.0, facilitating conversational follow-up questions that enable users to delve deeper into their queries. Originally launched on March 5, AI Mode was restricted to subscribers paying $20 a month for Google One. However, just over three weeks after the launch, Google announced its intentions to broaden access to include all users in the US. Robby Stein, the Vice President of Product for Google Search, revealed this wider rollout via a post on X.
Currently, there is no timeframe for when AI Mode might become available in other countries. For those who signed up for the AI Mode waitlist through Google Labs, they should receive an email confirming their access to the feature soon. Stein noted that further enhancements to AI Mode, including visual responses and richer formatting, are on the horizon. As Google continues to test AI Mode in its early phases, the potential to revolutionize user interaction with Google Search is significant.
This evolving technology could reshape the way billions of users engage with online information on a daily basis.
