Google Drive’s New Contextual Chips Encourage Users to Utilize Gemini Features and Enhancements

Google Drive has introduced a new feature called Gemini “Nudges,” which consists of clickable shortcuts positioned at the top of the Drive homepage and within folders. These Nudges provide users with quick access to various Gemini AI functionalities. With Nudges, users can instantly access tasks such as summarizing folders and learning about specific files, enhancing their productivity within Google Drive.

Currently, the Nudges feature is being rolled out to Google Workspace Business and Enterprise users, as well as subscribers of the Google One AI Premium plan. There is potential for this feature to be available to all Drive users in the future. Gemini AI, which has been integrated into many Google services, has particularly transformed the Google Workspace suite, benefiting applications like Gmail, Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Chat, and now Google Drive itself.

This integration enables AI capabilities for summarization, analysis, and content generation while efficiently retrieving hidden files. In Workspace apps, Gemini is located in a right-aligned side panel, facilitating quick access to tools that help users summarize documents, manage files and folders, and extract information from various projects. To further simplify the user experience, Google is planning to showcase common Gemini workflows as clickable Nudges at the top of the Drive interface.

The Nudges include shortcuts for popular tasks, such as “Summarize a folder in Drive,” “Learn about a file in Drive,” or “Ask about this folder.” Google has stated that these Nudges will evolve over time and may offer more personalized workflow options based on an individual’s Drive content. Currently, the Nudges are accessible for Google Workspace Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus users, and Google One AI Premium subscribers, along with those who hold a Gemini Education or Gemini Education Premium add-on.

The feature may take up to 15 days to become widely visible. As Google continues to enhance accessibility, it is likely that Nudges will soon be available to all Google Drive users.
