Few would have anticipated the release of new Pebble watches in 2025 following a surprise announcement from Google confirming the release of PebbleOS source code. Shortly after this revelation, Migicovsky announced plans to develop new Pebble devices, leading to preorders for the Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2. Although the launch date is still some time away, Migicovsky has been proactive in updating followers on the project via his blog.
His recent post expressed gratitude to his team and highlighted key features of the new models. Notably, the possibility of adding a compass to the Core Time 2 has generated excitement, and an affordable chip option has been identified for this purpose. While the new watches are expected to function well with Android devices, compatibility with iOS may vary due to Apple’s restrictions on wearables.
However, Migicovsky reassured users that they will have access to essential features like notifications and music controls. Concerns regarding the Core 2 Duo’s original components were also addressed, with assurances of modifications to improve the durability of the buttons. For those who are hesitant about potential issues, Migicovsky recommends upgrading to the Core Time 2, though he also noted that repair using 3D printed parts remains a feasible option.
