Google Pixel Weather App Introduces New Convenient Floating Action Button for Enhanced User Experience

The latest update to the Pixel Weather app, version 1.0.20250127.729684887, introduces a significant change to its user interface, relocating the Plus button used to add new cities. This enhancement replaces the app’s earlier default behavior, streamlining how users can manage their city lists. Contrary to merely adding cities, the updated version now includes a search function directly accessible from the homepage.

Previously, the Pixel Weather app allowed users to monitor multiple cities, but adding a new city required prior installation within the app. Consequently, users often opted to conduct a quick Google search or use the Google Assistant, especially if they were only curious about the weather conditions. The automatic addition of cities created a cluttered list, requiring users to swipe away cities once they were no longer needed.

In this recent revision, Pixel owners will notice that the floating action button (FAB), which once featured a Plus icon, now initiates a search for locations rather than automatically adding them. The Plus button has been conveniently relocated to appear next to the name of each city within search results, making it easier to add cities to your tracking list. Users can also save cities by tapping the pill-shaped Save button located in the detailed city view.

In addition to the relocation of the Plus button, the March update had already introduced features such as per-city Plus buttons, a mechanism to pause animations, and enhanced day-wise forecasts. The new design not only improves usability but also aligns with Google’s vision of offering a refined user experience across its ecosystem of services.
