In March, Google released the Wear OS 5.1 update for the Pixel Watch, introducing features such as improved step count accuracy and Loss of Pulse Detection. Unfortunately, the rollout was not extensive due to numerous bugs and issues, which led to problems like delayed notifications and syncing errors. For those Pixel Watch units still operating on Wear OS 5, a revised update is forthcoming but will take a few more weeks to arrive.
The initial Wear OS 5.1 update, based on Android 15, had been launched early in March but became controversial almost immediately due to the variety of bugs reported by users. In response to the problems, Google issued a minor update this month to address these reported issues. However, users who did not install the March update on their devices may need to wait longer for the corrected Wear OS 5.1 build to become available.
An announcement on Google’s support forums clarified that the bulk rollout of the Wear OS 5.1 firmware was not executed in March due to the emergence of these bugs. The April update, identified by build number BP1A.250305.019.W7, has been released for Pixel Watch units that are already on the March build (BP1A.250305.019.W3). This update resolves specific problems, including the inability for some users to modify or add watch faces through the mobile app, as well as the delayed notifications that many experienced.
If you have a Pixel Watch that received the March update, you can manually check for the April firmware by navigating to Settings > System > System updates. For those still using Wear OS 5, patience is essential as you await Google’s direct push of the new firmware. Additional information regarding this rollout is expected to be shared soon.
