One UI 7 Enhances YouTube Controls with Intelligent Cross-Device Notifications in Real-Time

Samsung has unveiled new live YouTube playback controls in its One UI 7 update, allowing users to enjoy synchronized playback across devices. This feature enables notifications and playback controls for YouTube videos viewed on smart TVs to also appear on Galaxy phones. Additionally, One UI 7 enhances the user experience further by introducing live notifications even for local YouTube playback.

The redesign of One UI 7 includes various updates aimed at improving usability, but one noteworthy addition has gone somewhat unnoticed. A team at SammyGuru discovered that on their Galaxy Z Fold SE running One UI 7, they received live notifications while watching a YouTube video on a smart TV. This feature showed a progress bar and playback controls, even if the TV did not support Google Cast or was not on the same Wi-Fi network as the phone, showcasing the versatility and range of the new functionality.

However, it’s important to note that this feature is currently limited to YouTube and does not extend to other streaming services such as Netflix or Disney+. While it appears to be included in the stable One UI 7 release, it has not been observed on the Galaxy S25 Ultra or its latest Android 15 beta firmware. It is anticipated that the upcoming April update will introduce this feature to the Galaxy S25 series.

In relation to these updates, on the Galaxy S25 series, users will see YouTube controls appear in the Now Bar on the lock screen for videos streaming directly on their phones. With One UI 7, Samsung has further integrated YouTube by adding live notifications. When users swipe up in the YouTube app, the video continues in a Picture-in-Picture (PiP) window, with notifications appearing in the status bar.

This offers a convenient way to access playback controls, differing from the standard media notification seen on the Galaxy S25 running One UI 7. Samsung is gradually rolling out this enhancement, facilitated by the latest Google Play services update.
