YouTube Finds a Solution to Help You Overcome Your Endless Shorts Addiction

A recent APK teardown has revealed that YouTube is developing a feature aimed at helping users manage their consumption of Shorts. This upcoming tool will allow users to set a specific time limit for how long they can scroll through YouTube Shorts.

However, details are still unclear regarding whether users will have the option to override the scrolling pause with just a button tap. Earlier this month, Google introduced several new features for YouTube Shorts creators to streamline the process of producing these short videos.

While the company is eager to enhance its vertical video platform, it also recognizes the potential downside of excessive consumption. In response to this concern, YouTube’s new feature is designed to assist users in curbing what has been termed “Shorts addiction.”

According to the findings from the APK teardown of YouTube version 20.15.32 beta, the feature will implement a daily timer that activates only during scrolling through Shorts. This means that, while the scrolling will pause when the user reaches their set limit, they can still watch Shorts that are shared outside of the scrolling feed without any restrictions.

Users will have the flexibility to configure their own daily timer according to their preferences, with options to choose the duration in minutes or hours. This customization allows individuals to determine how much time they are comfortable spending on Shorts each day.

However, it remains uncertain whether this feature will enforce strict limits or if it will allow users to bypass the scrolling pause if desired. If YouTube opts for a softer enforcement strategy, akin to TikTok’s screen time limits, the feature might serve primarily as a tool for encouraging breaks rather than as a definitive solution to Shorts addiction.
