YouTube Music has introduced a new way for users to express their appreciation for songs through a double-tap gesture on the album art. This feature, available for users on version 8.14.53A or later, allows listeners to quickly like a song by double-tapping the center of the album. However, it’s important to be careful with where you tap, as touching the sides of the album art will skip tracks instead.
While this feature aligns with familiar actions on platforms like Instagram and TikTok, it may prove challenging for one-handed use, as dedicated like and dislike buttons are positioned just below the album art for easier access. In addition to the new liking feature, YouTube Music has rolled out “Consistent volume,” which aims to normalize volume across different tracks. This enhancement is particularly beneficial for users who often switch between diverse music genres, each of which may have varying volume levels due to different remastering processes.
This feature is available in version 8.15 of YouTube Music on both Android and iOS. However, users may not immediately find it, as the rollout appears to be phased. To access this feature, one should navigate to the Playback Settings in the YouTube Music app.
Despite these advancements, YouTube Music still lacks certain popular features found on competitors like Spotify and Apple Music, such as crossfade and more advanced playlist organization. While the new features are aimed at improving the listening experience, they do not significantly change how users interact with the app. Patience is key; if new features are not appearing immediately, it may take some time for the complete rollout to reach all users.
