Summary
A new lock screen layout is being introduced in Android 16 Beta 4, which features a repositioning of elements such as the At a Glance information and current weather. According to Mishaal Rahman from Android Authority, this updated layout is not yet available to users by default and may not appear in the initial stable release of Android 16.
However, users can look forward to a more colorful always-on display (AOD) clock in this version as well. The updated lock screen allows for weather information to be positioned closer to the clock compared to the existing setup.
Currently, the At a Glance information is displayed directly under the weather at all times, but in the upcoming layout, the weather will be located just beneath the large clock. When the clock is minimized, the date and weather will appear to the right of it.
In addition to the new layout, this beta version includes another lock screen feature that is enabled by default. Users can change the color of the clock on their lock screen, and this color will automatically apply to the clock on the always-on display as well.
Notably, this feature is only compatible with certain clock styles available on Pixel devices, and it is expected that compatibility will increase in the stable version of Android 16. It is important to highlight that the updated lock screen style from Android Authority is not a user-accessible feature in this beta version; it must be manually enabled.
Rahman suggests that it is unlikely this new style will be included in the first stable release of Android 16, which is anticipated in the coming months. However, there remains a possibility that it could appear in an update scheduled for the fourth quarter of this year.
