Google TV Freeplay has expanded its offerings to include 174 free streaming channels, with the latest addition of nine new channels primarily targeting children’s content. This enhancement aims to make it easier for viewers to access a variety of options without the need for subscriptions. By introducing a dedicated “Free” button on remotes, Google is simplifying navigation for its users. The initiative began last year when Google launched Freeplay, similar to services like Samsung TV Plus and LG Channels, providing hundreds of channels at no cost.
The platform is frequently updated, having seen a dozen channels added during the 2024 holiday season, though some were also removed. Now, with new content centered around children, the listings continue to grow. Among the new additions are several beloved children’s shows, including dedicated channels for “Teletubbies,” “Sonic the Hedgehog,” and “Strawberry Shortcake.” Notably, “Baby Shark TV” is also now available, streaming episodes of the internet phenomenon.
In addition to the kid-friendly options, an exciting channel for adults is “Filmrise: Hot Ones,” which airs full episodes of the popular talk show. Despite the increase in channels, some have been quietly removed from the service, and the complete list has not been fully updated on Google’s support page. The current figures indicate 161 channels, lacking the most recent additions. As users look for free entertainment amid rising subscription costs, this expansion is particularly timely.
However, it’s important to note that Freeplay requires an internet connection and includes ads during viewing. Overall, Google’s efforts to enhance Freeplay reflect its commitment to providing accessible content to diverse audiences.
