YouTube TV is poised to enhance its multiview feature by enabling support for select non-sports content. Users can expect to manually activate multiview to combine streams from popular channels, with this feature set to roll out in the coming weeks.
Despite a price increase last year, YouTube TV continues to be a leading live TV streaming service in the United States, boasting features such as unlimited cloud recording and simultaneous streaming across multiple devices. A signature feature for sports enthusiasts has been the multiview option, allowing viewers to watch up to four live streams simultaneously on a single screen.
This has made it easier to follow multiple games at once. However, this functionality has so far been restricted to sports content, a limitation that is finally set to change.
In celebration of YouTube’s 20th anniversary, the company has unveiled several new features for YouTube TV, with the expansion of multiview to include non-sports content being a notable highlight. In a recent blog post, YouTube indicated that users will soon have the opportunity to experiment with creating their own multiview streams using a select set of non-sports channels.
It is important to note that this feature will not be automatically enabled; users will likely need to opt in once it becomes available. Initially, the multiview feature will support a limited number of popular channels, with plans for broader expansion in the months ahead.
Alongside the multiview update, YouTube introduced several additional features to commemorate its milestone anniversary. These enhancements include an increase in playback speed options for Premium subscribers and an updated user interface for the YouTube app on smart TVs.
The company has also started rolling out a new Material Design 3-inspired look for the YouTube desktop experience.
