Simplifying the Process of Staying Updated with Google Home App Changes

A new feature called “What’s new” will soon be introduced to the Google Home app, providing users with a straightforward way to access detailed release notes. This shortcut will be permanently available in the Google account menu, ensuring that it remains accessible after viewing the latest updates. In addition to the “What’s new” shortcut, a redesign of the account switcher menu is currently being tested. It is expected that both this updated menu and the shortcut will be rolled out simultaneously in a future update.

Earlier this year, in mid-April, Google began testing significant enhancements to the Google Home app, aimed at streamlining the process of locating smart home devices among numerous options. These enhancements include dedicated in-app search tools positioned in the Devices and Favorites tabs. While users have been eagerly anticipating the rollout of these search capabilities, they have not yet appeared, even with the latest build and Public Preview installed. However, Google seems to be making strides in helping users stay informed about forthcoming features.

Following a proactive update to its Google Home app release notes to clarify changes, the company encourages users to visit the support page for information on the latest updates and fixes. According to findings from the code in Google Home version 3.32.126.1, there is a plan to introduce the “What’s new” shortcut prominently within the app. This will allow users to stay current with release notes without having to search for them separately. The shortcut will be placed alongside options like switching and managing your Google Account, Help, Feedback, and the yet-to-be-moved Settings menu.

Additionally, the redesigned account switcher menu will not appear as an overlay, but rather as its own page containing distinct sections for account settings. Both the “What’s new” shortcut and the redesigned menu are likely to be launched together in an upcoming update.
