Google discreetly adds a new time-saving feature to three additional apps.

Google is introducing a new, more user-friendly account switcher across several of its applications. This update includes a collapsible menu that allows users to switch between multiple Google profiles easily. By simplifying the navigation process, the new feature aims to streamline account management, eliminating the need for a cumbersome multi-step process to switch accounts.

Many of Google’s popular applications come pre-installed on nearly every Android phone. While some might consider this approach anti-competitive for other app developers, it ultimately benefits users by saving them time and effort when setting up their devices. However, it’s important to note that not all Google apps are included during the initial setup.

That said, Google ensures that even less popular apps receive necessary updates to maintain a consistent design across their suite of products. Google has been actively working on this new account switcher since last year, initially testing it in Google Keep. It has slowly rolled out to other apps, and recently, Google Maps became the first app to receive this feature through an update.

Despite the initial testing phase beginning with Google Keep, it has yet to receive the new account switcher, while three other apps—Google Wallet, Tasks, and Translate—have now incorporated this feature. The new account switcher simplifies the previous process, which required users to navigate to the profile page and select “Manage your Google account.” The updated feature allows users to access their accounts in a single collapsible menu, making it far easier to switch accounts, add new ones, and manage them on the device.

The redesigned switcher is available in the latest versions of Translate, Wallet, and Tasks. Users may need to restart their apps to see the new feature after updating. It’s noteworthy that, as of now, Google Maps remains the only widely downloaded app, with over 10 billion installs, to have received this update.
