Google’s Pixel 9 series has introduced a significant enhancement to the Google Phone app with the Call Notes feature, which allows users to record, transcribe, and summarize their calls in the United States. This feature fills a gap as the app previously lacked the ability to record calls.
Call Notes utilizes on-device AI to provide a transcript and summary of conversations. Alongside this innovative feature, Google is working on an update that will introduce an automatic deletion option for Call Notes.
Users will soon be able to set their preferences for deleting Call Notes after 7, 14, or 30 days, or they can opt to delete all Call Notes immediately. This auto-deletion feature aims to help users manage their call history more effectively, especially with the potential introduction of automatic call recording.
Currently, Call Notes must be enabled manually for each individual call through the in-call menu. However, recent indications suggest that Google is planning to enhance this functionality by allowing calls to be recorded automatically for selected contacts.
This upgrade is expected to make managing recordings even simpler. The upcoming auto-delete settings, as discovered in a recent beta version of the Google Phone app, will include a toggle in the settings menu.
Users can customize their auto-deletion preferences based on their needs, choosing to delete Call Notes after a certain period or to keep them indefinitely. For those looking for immediate action, the option to delete all Call Notes in one go will also be available.
While the auto-delete feature is still in beta testing and not widely available, it promises to complement the potential automatic call recording feature that Google is developing, ensuring that users can efficiently manage their call transcripts and recordings.
